A musical journey through the past, present, and future
One heartbeat fades. A new breath begins. Between them lies a moment so brief we barely notice it, yet wide enough to hold a lifetime.
“Zeitensprung” takes us through memories, into the restless present, and towards a future whose shape remains unknown. Conceived as a German trance-ambient musical lasting approximately 15 minutes, the work combines spoken passages, choral sections, atmospheric soundscapes, and driving rhythms.
Its journey begins in mystery and reflection. Gradually, it opens towards hope and the willingness to move forward, even when we cannot see what waits beyond the next door.
The lyric excerpts below are English translations of the German original.
🚪 The moment between two times
The prologue opens a space for a different way of imagining time:
“Perhaps time is not a line.
Perhaps it is a space.
And sometimes …
a door opens.”
The arrangement calls for dark ambient textures and a deep pulse that emerges slowly. They provide room for the question running through the work: How do we experience time, and where do we find ourselves within it?
The door becomes a recurring image of transition. Passing through means leaving something behind and entering something unfamiliar.
🌅 The past: What we carry beneath our skin
The first part takes us to an old street. Houses, voices, and people long absent from the present become vivid again. A child runs down an alley, knowing only the smell of rain, the light in a window, and this particular afternoon.
For that child, everything is happening now. It becomes the past only through our perspective.
Warm ambient textures, distant bells, or individual piano notes are suggested to accompany the scene. These images lead to a personal observation:
“We carry our past with us.
Not in suitcases.
Not in drawers.
But beneath our skin.”
Memory lives in our words, decisions, and mistakes. The people we used to be continue to shape the way we move through the world.
📱 The present: Holding the world while losing sight of ourselves
During the first leap, the old images dissolve. A steady trance beat takes over, bringing the journey into the present.
Here, screens glow, voices compete for attention, and people pass one another by. Everything seems connected, yet a sense of loneliness remains.
The text asks a question that cuts through the activity:
“We know
what is happening somewhere in the world.
But do we still know
what is happening within us?”
The “Jetzt” (“Now”) chorus draws attention towards a single breath, a single moment, and a shared presence. Its planned repetitions allow that small word to expand.
Even as we notice the moment, however, it begins to pass. “Now becomes yesterday,” the choir whispers, setting the next transition in motion.
✨ The future: Spaces we have yet to enter
The future first appears as light and openness. Its streets have yet to take shape. Its cities have no names. One day, people will live there for whom our present belongs to history.
What will they remember about us? Our buildings, machines, and words? Or the consequences of the decisions we make today?
These questions connect the personal journey with responsibility towards those who come after us. At the same time, the future remains open:
“Perhaps the future
is an invitation.”
Bright ambient textures and the gradual return of the beat are designed to give this thought a hopeful direction. What remains unwritten still holds possibility.
💠Going back, looking ahead—or learning to live?
In the quieter section “Die Frage” (“The Question”), the journey becomes deeply personal. If we could return, would we change a mistake? Prevent a farewell? Relive one second differently?
And would we truly want to know what lies ahead?
The musical concept brings the beat almost to a standstill, leaving space for these questions. The reflection that follows gradually releases the desire for control: perhaps we can learn to live with both our past and our uncertain future.
From this emerges the work’s central thought:
“The past …
is what shaped us.
The present …
is what we make of it.
The future …
is what can grow from it.”
As the full trance rhythm builds, moving forward gains momentum. The main chorus brings yesterday, today, and tomorrow into one continuous movement, allowing its destination to remain unknown.
🕊️ Three voices and an open door
Towards the end, the past, present, and future each receive a voice. Each makes a request: Do not forget me. Do not lose me. Do not fear me.
Together, they bring the journey into focus:
“You are the transition.
You are the moment.
You are the leap through time.”
In the epilogue, the door from the opening returns. What lies beyond it remains uncertain. By now, however, the unknown feels different. Between memory and anticipation, a life is taking place.
đź’› Conclusion
“Zeitensprung” imagines an expansive musical journey through memory, awareness, and the willingness to welcome what comes next. Spoken passages, recurring choruses, and shifts between ambient spaces and trance rhythms give each period of time its own dramatic character.
The ending leaves a quiet thought:
“And somewhere …
between yesterday and tomorrow …
there we are.”
A work for anyone who looks back, wonders about tomorrow, and hopes to rediscover the moment they are living now.
